About Sevylor
The road from Sevylor's founding in 1948 to its current role as the dominant supplier of a wide range of inflatables--such as kayaks, boats, and towables--is a long one, with plenty of original inventions and innovations along the way. Established in a city suburb of Vitry, France, by electronics engineer Berco Grimbert, Sevylor originally built electrical accessories, with a sideline business dedicated to using its high-frequency welding machines to manufacture PVC consumer goods. The first inflatable to receive rave notice was a small bathtub called the Dou Dou. Perfect for postwar France, the inflatable tub was portable, convenient, practical, easy to clean, durable, and, best of all, affordable. After moving to the picturesque Alsatian village of Buhl, the company expanded into developing valves, pumps, boats, inflatable pools, and a variety of water toys. In the ensuing years, Sevylor first developed a PVC that had "memory"--meaning it could return to its original shape regardless of temperature--and then made history by releasing an inflatable pool mattress with a headrest and circular pockets. In 1986, the company invented the Ski Bob, a real turning point in the evolution of the towables business. Today, Sevylor's innovative designs include tenders, hunting and fishing boats, specialty boats and kayaks, towables, snow tubes, air beds, pool floats, river tubes, swim and sport rings, and more.

(8/7/11) I own four other inflatable boats including a pontoon boat, a Stearns canoe and a Sevylor whitewater kayak. These are $500-800 boats. I bought the K1 because I want something I can pack on my bike or pack in to mountain lakes on my back.THE GOOD: The boat alone weighed in at 12 pounds and the paddle and pump add little weight though I did not weigh them. I took the K1 out today and found that it was very impressive on the water. It was stable to the point that I would be comfortable fly fishing from it on calm lakes and paddling in small waves wou ld not make me nervous. I wou ld not take it on a river with any amount of rapids, though. If given enough pressure, the seat back is fairly supportive. I'm 6' 1" and I was able to put my feet against the end of the recessed area beyond the foot braces for a very comfortable braced position. I'd be a bit concerned for shorter paddlers that the bumps that are there for foot braces would do little or nothing to help keep... Read more

I live in Canada (Vancouver Island, BC) so I had to go across the border at Blaine to pick up my boat but it has been well worth while. I was looking for a boat light enough for me to carry down to the beach by myself and still be able to carry back after an hour of paddling and this boat fills the bill. I have a nice little fiberglass kayak but it is now too heavy for me. I used to have a 2 person Sevylor but it would not track properly. This one is slower than the fiberglass one but tracks well and as I only want to paddle around the bay I live on it suits me well. I was worried about sittin on top but it actually feels much better to me than sitting down inside the other ones. It is attracting a lot of attention from others at the beach and it is so much fun. The seat is really comfortable and gives great support. It seems completely stable even with a bit of a breeze and a few waves. I didn't really like the 3 piece paddle but I have another 2 piece paddle from my other...

This kayak is bigger than it looks. It sits in level the water. It is better than expected. It handles like a small kayak and manuvers very well! The air chambers are well constructed and I didn't have to add air even after 3 days of use. The back support did not collapse and supports nicely. The air pump included worked well, but I used a Coleman 12 volt to air up the first time. The included paddle will suffice, but I prefer a stronger one. All said, this is a fun, light weight easy to pack and use kayak. I love it!
