My dad has two of these, they were both purchased back around '99 and live at his beach home. They make a perfect boat for the short sharp surf of york beach, ME and when the waves are dead we will take them for short paddles over to the Nubble light or down to york harbor.My dad got them for free diving (snorkeling) as they make a great float and are easy to reboard from the water. For small to medium surf the yak is great, I can even catch waves on days that the waves are too small for surfers to stand up. I only had one day that the waves were too big and that was with a hurricane off shore kicking up huge 8'+ waves so large the surfers were catching the first break out of sight of the beach. You will want to get the rubber seat, I find it is much more comfortable than the cloth "comfort" seat my dad paid extra for for one of the yaks. I bought this as a gift, and am very pleased. It is light enough for one person to carry, pretty stable on the ocean (good for waves too), and can fit inside my VW van. It would probably be best to add on a seat, because the back rest is very low otherwise. The best part is Amazon- free shipping, no tax. What a good deal!
